Mental Health Nurse

The POH-GGZ (Practice Assistant for General Practitioner Mental Health) is a specialized healthcare provider within our general practice. She supports patients with mild mental health issues, such as worry, depression, or anxiety.

The POH-GGZ works under the ultimate responsibility of the general practitioner, clarifies the problem, develops treatment plans, provides psychoeducation, and treats complaints with interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy. The POH-GGZ encourages the patient's self-reliance and can refer them to other healthcare providers if necessary. Her services fall under the general practitioner's care and are covered by basic health insurance.

In addition, the POH GGZ offers the e-health program in conjunction with the consultations. This online program can help you work on your symptoms in a flexible and accessible way.

The tasks and role of a POH-GGZ:

  • Guidance for minor complaints:

The POH-GGZ offers guidance to people with mild to moderate mental health complaints, such as anxiety, depression, tension and stress.

  • Problem clarification and screening:

The POH-GGZ helps patients gain insight into their complaints and determines their nature and severity.

  • Collaboration with the general practitioner:

The general practitioner is ultimately responsible for care, but the POH-GGZ works closely with the general practitioner and informs the general practitioner about the patient's progress.

  • Treatment plans:

In consultation with the patient, the POH-GGZ draws up a treatment plan, including the necessary steps and any referrals.

The POH-GGZ provides patients with explanations about their complaints, for example about anxiety or depression, to promote understanding and recovery.

  • Self-management and relapse prevention: The POH-GGZ teaches patients how to manage their complaints themselves and how to prevent them from returning.

  • Referral to other care: If the complaints are more severe or require more specialized care, the POH-GGZ can refer the patient to other institutions, such as general basic mental health care or specialist mental health care.

  • Low-threshold care: The POH-GGZ provides low-threshold mental health care within the familiar environment of the general practitioner's practice.
