We do not simply provide information to family or friends. When third parties request medical information, the following rules apply:

  • Partner: You cannot request information about your partner without their express written or verbal consent. This consent will be recorded in the file.

  • Children: Parents have a legal right to access medical information for children under the age of 16.

    • However, children between the ages of 12 and 16 can object to information being provided to their parents. The GP may decide not to provide information to the parents if it conflicts with the child's care.

    • Children aged 16 or older can make their own decisions about their medical treatment. In this case, parental consent is no longer required, and parents are only informed if the child agrees. Parents are also not allowed to request information without their child's consent.

  • Separated Parents: Both parents can have parental responsibility, which gives them the right to decide on their child's medical treatment and access their medical records. If a parent does not have parental responsibility, they cannot make decisions about the child's treatment.

  • Parents: If you are entitled to request information about or for your parent, written or verbal consent from the parent in question must be recorded in the GP's file.

  • Agencies (such as lawyers, police, insurance companies, occupational health physicians): Your written authorization is always required to provide information to agencies. This authorization only covers specific information and is valid for a limited time. Information is provided to agencies only in writing.
