Then this information is important for you!
You may receive a different medication from your pharmacy than usual. The packaging or color may be different, and sometimes it has a different name. However, the active ingredient is the same. This is due to the preferential treatment policies of health insurance companies .
What is preferential policy?
Health insurance companies select one or more preferred brands within a drug group. Only these medications are fully reimbursed. Pharmacies are obligated to dispense these preferred medications.
Why does my medication look different?
Your medication may have a different shape, color, or packaging. This does not mean it is less effective. The active ingredient and strength are the same, and the quality is monitored.
What if you don't tolerate your preferred medication well?
Sometimes you don't tolerate your preferred medication well. According to regulations, we can't simply prescribe a different one. We have to monitor this closely. In this case, you have the following options:
Discuss your symptoms with your general practitioner or specialist. The doctor can assess whether another medication might be suitable for you.
In exceptional cases – if other preferred medications are ineffective – the doctor may determine a medical necessity.
Would you prefer a different (non-preferred) medication?
We can offer this service for a fee. You pay for the medication yourself at the pharmacy. Afterwards, you can claim the costs (possibly partially) from your health insurance provider. Whether you receive reimbursement depends on your health insurance provider and your specific insurance plan.
Why do these rules exist?
The government and health insurers want to keep healthcare costs affordable by encouraging the choice of cheaper brands.
We understand that this can be annoying.
